At the Paws For Cause store in Zebulon. The thrift shop is owned by a lesbian, too.

Sugar Mountain, NC
Finally made the annual ski trip. It was a beautiful day sunny and just above freezing, and I finally made it down Big Birch without stopping, pictured here about halfway down. More pics at meetup.com in the photo album.

Virgilina, VA
When I was growing up, we lived in Virgilina, a small town on the border of...wait for this....Virginia and North Carolina. This was back in the early 70's., I think.
We only lived there for a very short time, and the only memories I have of it is that we were on the NC side of town. The whole county went to a single high school, and that seniors drove the buses (and I had a major crush on Elmo, our driver). Sis, who had struck out on her own, had come to visit and we got into a fight that ended with her sitting on a chiggers nest.
The town of Virgilina at that time was a single store at the crossroads, with the town sign across the street. The general store had what even then was an old fashioned gas pump. Pictured is that old store, still standing. The gas pump looks like it got taken out when the road was widened.

Funny how even in the middle of nowhere, progress continues.

Pilot Mountain
Went climbing Pilot Mountain, or actually following the Ledge Spring Trail which skirts first along the top of rock cliffs, then along the bottom. All along the trail were folks rappelling the rock faces.

Most of the trail was climbing rock steps, which isn't really hiking but we enjoyed the trip, which ended up spending the night in a cheap-ass hotel in Roanoke, then down the Blue Ridge Parkway for a bit, followed another road east out of the mountains and finally through Virgilina.

3D Movies
Going back and forth yesterday on what movie to watch. Really wanted to see Benjamin Buttons, but almost 3 hours of melancholy just didn't sound real appealing. Then I saw my local theater has 3D movies, so there ya' go!

Bolt in 3D was a fun movie. The story was good, simple and entertaining. The effects were good, not the over the top, cross-eyed type the first generation used.
Plus the shorts leading into the movie were also in 3D, so it was a regular cartoon fest for a good 20 minutes before the movie. There might have been a trailer in there.

If you haven't been to a 3D movie lately, you are missing a lot of fun.
