Virgilina, VA

When I was growing up, we lived in Virgilina, a small town on the border of...wait for this....Virginia and North Carolina. This was back in the early 70's., I think.

We only lived there for a very short time, and the only memories I have of it is that we were on the NC side of town. The whole county went to a single high school, and that seniors drove the buses (and I had a major crush on Elmo, our driver). Sis, who had struck out on her own, had come to visit and we got into a fight that ended with her sitting on a chiggers nest.

The town of Virgilina at that time was a single store at the crossroads, with the town sign across the street. The general store had what even then was an old fashioned gas pump. Pictured is that old store, still standing. The gas pump looks like it got taken out when the road was widened.

Funny how even in the middle of nowhere, progress continues.
